But Biotin, being part of the of the B complex group of vitamins, has other important functions. For example, it plays an essential role in key metabolic processes, i.e., the metabolism of macronutrients (carbs, fats, and protein). This is why it has been implicated in weight loss and is also sometimes recommended as a supplement (along with chromium) for people with type 2 diabetes to help control blood sugar. Biotin is also needed for a healthy liver, eyes and proper functioning of the nervous system.I have been taking a Biotin supplement on and off for many years, having first become interested in it for its "beauty" benefits (hair, skin, nails) and then its potential role in weight loss and/or healthy weight maintenance. My brand of choice until now has been Natrol Biotin, Maximum Strength, 10,000 mcg Tablets, 100 Count (Pack of 2). I'm pretty sure that I've always opted for the Natrol brand for its popularity and its price point. It is routinely offered at a very good price on Amazon and is often on sale at big box retailers and drugstore chains.Now that I've tried the Nutrinalis Biotin, I can compare and contrast the two brands:1. One serving of each brand contains 10,000 mcg (10mg) of Biotin.2. Two capsules of Nutrinalis constitutes one serving; while one tablet of Natrol constitutes one serving.3. The labels of the two respective brands indicate that one serving of Natrol additionally contains 66 mg of Calcium Phosphate while the Nutrinalis brand contains Di-calcium Phosphate which is listed in "Other Ingredients".4. The Nutrinalis brand comes in a veggie capsule; while the Natrol brand comes in a smallish round tablet form.5. The Nutrinalis brand label lists a total of 5 ingredients: Biotin, Di-calcium Phosphate, Vegetable Magnesium Stearate, Gelatin, Water.6. The Natrol brand label lists a total of 9 ingredients: Biotin, Calcium Phosphate, Cellulose, Stearic Acid, Silica, Magnesium Stearate, Methylcellulose, Cellulose Gum, Glycerin.7. According to the label, Nutrinalis Biotin is made in a GMP certified, FDA inspected facility in the U.S.A. There is no mention of where Natrol Biotin is made on the label / bottle although, to be fair, it has information about its quality control on its website. (Personally, I prefer statements regarding the origin of sourcing and manufacturing to be right on the label for the product.)So, for me, after years of using Natrol and after finally having compared it to another brand, Nutrinalis, I find each of the brands has some pros and cons.* Personally, I really like the fact that Natrol is 100% vegetarian, whereas Nutrinalis contains gelatin. I realize that lots of people have no issues with consuming gelatin and some actually take gelatin supplements but, personally, I am not keen on consuming boiled down parts (hoofs, bones and connective tissue) of pigs and cows.* That said, Nutrinalis Biotin does come in a capsule, which can be opened and not used. With certain supplements, I often skip consuming the capsule and, in the case, of Nutrinalis Biotin, I find the contents of the capsule to actually be quite palatable. However, I still have a strong preference for a Veg-Cap or V-Cap for ethical reasons.* The Nutrinalis Biotin has far fewer ingredients which, to me, is almost always a good thing.* The Nutrinalis Biotin has country of manufacture and quality standards information printed right on the label. I don't have to go to a website to look for the information.* I assume that the amount of Di-calcium Phosphate in Nutrinalis Biotin is very minimal and that is why its included in the "Other Ingredients". Otherwise, it would be nice to know how much is in each capsule.* And, last but not least, there is the cost (price point) to consider.
