The most common application for a product like this is for retrofitting an existing fluorescent fixture and converting it so that it can use LED lamps. Unlike a fluorescent tube, these lamps are not cylindrical in shape. A strip of LED’s are mounted inside the tube, which is plastic, and has a frosted area that helps to diffuse and soften the light. The lamp consumes about 22 watts, and supposedly produces 2300 lumens, with a color temperature of 4500 degrees K. Like most other LED products, the cost for this type of lamp has decreased significantly in the last few years, and the current cost is very competitive. As expected payback times have decreased, retrofitting fluorescent fixtures has become a more practical option. These lamps are produced in China. This is not unusual, as many LED products sold in America use LED’s, drivers, or other parts that are from China.
