## Description

All sorts of gruesome deaths await you and the rest of your wagon party in this official multi-player card game version of the classic computer game. To win, you'll need to keep one player alive all the way from Independence, MO to the Willamette Valley. But between rattlesnakes, starvation, dead oxen, broken bones, dysentery, and a host of other calamities, the odds are long...almost as long as the Oregon Trail itself. Players work together to move along the trail, fording rivers and playing Supply Cards to overcome calamities. Be warned - there will be times when it makes sense to let one of your wagon mates succumb to a calamity rather than expend precious supplies. Every time players go the way of all flesh, you'll flip over the roster card and write their names on tombstones (don't forget to include a quick epitaph). It's a great way to relive your fond memories of one of the world's most beloved computer games and to kill off your family and friends at the same time. For 2-6 players, ages 12 and up.

Review: True to its source - Very fun collaborative game and a nice throwback
Review: Simple and fun! - Super fun game! Our family loves games, so this was easy to learn. Even though the rules stress that you probably won’t make it, 3 out of the 5 of us made it in our first time playing, and the other 2 only died really close to the end. There are a couple instant death cards, but only about 4 in the large deck of calamities. The rules were worded a little weird at first, but we understood it. Super great theming and design as well! Overall fun, simple game that got us all laughing.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are the wagon and ox included, or do I have to buy those seperately?**
A: Ox and wagon are shipped separately from the rest of the game, but I have to warn you there are a few watch outs.
- The top speed of the ox and wagon is about 2 mph. My commute has extended from less than 20 minutes to just over 3 hours each way. Fortunately, there is a large lot at work and the edge is bordered by shrubbery where the oxen can graze.
- Oxen require more food than the reviews led me to believe! I've been sneaking them onto local sports fields for mid-night feedings, but this is becoming increasingly difficult. First of all, I'm really short of sleep from transporting them over there. Second, the local high school has hired a security guard following the difficulty of the cow-pies during the homecoming game. He's better than average and very attentive, so I've had to be creative with how I reach the field. Incidentally, if you know of a nearby field in the area which is unpatrolled, I'm in the market!
- The HOA has registered several complaints against me on behalf of my neighbors. Currently, I'm not violating any neighborhood rules, but it's become increasingly difficult to vote down the referendums. My neighbors have actually started attending the HOA meetings!
- The wagon has presented a few issues, but nothing major. It takes up slightly more than a standard traffic lane, which means more people honk at me than used to. Also, I've had a few tickets, but you can talk your way out of them with an historic license plate. It also takes up a larger than normal portion of my driveway and will NOT fit in a standard American garage, even one which accommodates SUVs. Additionally, parallel parking is not possible as there is no reverse on the standard models shipped with the game.
Other than this I'm thoroughly pleased with the Conestoga and oxen. They've given a depth of play to the game which did not exist before. The cow pie collection has also significantly decreased our heating bill during the winter!

**Q: Is it appropriate for children? I'm worried by the dysentery joke on the cover. My kids are ages 7-11.**
A: This is a throwback to the old game from the 1980s, and it's designed to bring nostalgia for 30+ people. I, myself played it when I was 8 or 9 on a computer, so it's certainly fine for those ages...

**Q: How big an area with two people need to play this? I.e. can two people on a plane sitting next to each other have enough space or do they need more?**
A: Needs much more space to play properly. You build a trail with the cards and you are suppose to play with your hands facing open plus there are a couple of decks that need to sit out.

**Q: Will this game help middle schoolers learn about the Oregon Trail?**
A: No. How do I know? Because people actually survived the Oregon Trail in real life. This game no one survives... ever. Everyone loses.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just as frustrating as the video game was. You will enjoy it or hate it.
*by C***S on August 25, 2025*

Definitely very much like the video game and that may not always be a good thing. The first time I played it was only two player and the very first challenge card I drew, I died due to a rattlesnake bite. I mean....seriously?!? All that game set up and I go out like that. Brings back the frustrating memories of the game. It plays well enough for what it is. Pieces, design, and quality are all there. Rules are not complicated and only take a couple minutes to learn. Although you will love the idea of playing, the overall gameplay may get frustrating depending on your luck of the draw. My partner was able to survive for several more rounds until the challenges overwhelmed them and they lost. The game does leave to dead companions with nothing to do but watch, which makes it a difficult party game. Again, this is all premeditated and you can not fault the game or it's design. It is based on the original video game and this stuff happened. For those looking for nostalgia this game didn't miss any of it. Good game design and as tough as the origin DOS game.
