Use one TetraPond Fountain Block for water volumes between 100 gallons (380 L) and 250 gallons (950 L). For the initial dose, add one block for each 100 gallons (380 L) of pond/fountain water. We do recommend cleaning it out, if possible, as this product is more of a preventative product. It doesn't work as well at killing algae that is present as it does at preventing it from occurring. So if you clean out your fountain first, then refill it and drop this in, you should not have algae the rest of the season. **Q: I have a lot of birds drinking from my fountain now, are the Flountain blocks safe for wildlife?** A: Customer feedback over the years has indicated that these are safe for birds. Water will foam up when more water is added but doesn't last. A friend recommended this product, so bought it and once in hand, dropped a single small block into the pond near the pump inlet. Within a few days, water was clear again, and within a few weeks, all the stones were clean again. Pretty amazing. The package label is a bit confusing though, because it shows pictures of fish on it, like for use in Koi pond, but fine print says it will kill fish and birds.
