For lawns or potted plants apply in a thin, even spray. My yard is 1.5 acres so I need a lot of solution per Lawn treatment. Likely approx. 1x 32oz bottle of SLS. Ounce for ounce, using a surfactant is far < $ for 1 gallon bottle/128oz than a single 32oz bottle of ALS, SLES, or SLS.
