I, discovered if I use half the amount recommended my results are better and my makeup looks better on. The before picture, I have no makeup on. The next picture is after I applied the eye cream, then my makeup (I just put on my dried pressed powder for this photo). If you use too much, it might feel a little sticky. I advise waiting a good 5 to 10 minutes to let it set and dry before applying anything else. I also love to keep this in my refrigerator. I have not had any irritation with this product whatsoever. The product does not tighten underneath your eyes so much that after it fades you actually see more lines like with other products. The caffeine products stretch out the puffiness. Most products after they wear off show more lines than you had before. This product doesn't do this. I'm not exactly sure what the science is behind this but I don't find that I have extra lines after I've washed everything off my face later in the day. There's no tingling effect, no stretching or tightening feeling, just a "refreshed" outcome. And again, try using half of their suggested amount if you feel that the recommended amount is too much.
