You really need to crank down on the vice. It may be worth spending the extra $ on one designed for larger hooks. **Q: Can the vise and base be removed from the case? If so, is the base heavy enough to not move around when tying flies?** A: No....the vise including base stay case.....it was very convenient to use and having your tools right next to the vise.
