The metal on the front corners helps protect those corners and looks nice.. Glad I ordered extra inserts. we have about 40 inserts, half with cards in the sleeves and still have room for more. The D-ring helps the cards lay flat. The black color shows off the cards nicely, and my eight year old loves it. It's slightly thicker than cardboard and is incredibly stiff. The more you open it the more the spine wrinkles and the black starts to wear into a cracked white. The binder is ok. The aluminum corner edges does provide protection, but the binder itself is a thick hard cardboard material? Issue with this is you could easily dent it and leave a permanent park. Not noticeable faraway, but the indention is there.
