## Overview

The Fresh 2017 Saffron Bulbs package includes 40 premium quality bulbs, perfect for planting in USDA Hardiness Zones 6-9. These organic bulbs thrive in sandy soil with moderate watering and full sun exposure, offering stunning crocus flowers in the fall and the potential for a bountiful saffron harvest.

## Description

The rare and expensive spice, Saffron, also known as “Red Gold", only comes from the Saffron Crocus. These crocus can grow nearly anywhere in the world, but the condition of the soil they are planted in is even more important than the climate in which they are grown. Since Saffron Crocus bloom in the FALL, the corms should be planted immediately upon receipt. Saffron Crocus prefer full sun and well-draining soil. Clay or otherwise heavy soil must be avoided, although, for small areas like the home garden, it is easy enough to amend the soil by adding sand, peat or compost. Saffron corms can be planted either directly into the ground, or into pots or containers. Plant the corms, pointed side up, about 3"-4" deep, and about 3"-4" apart. WATER WELL after planting, and keep your crocus watered throughout the fall and in the spring. Flowers will appear about 6-8 weeks after planting, and the foliage - long slender grass-like leaves - will appear along with or shortly after the flowers. The foliage will stay green throughout the winter and into the spring, and then turn yellow and die back for the summer. For Saffron Crocus to do well, it is VERY important that the corms be allowed to dry out completely during the summer. Therefore, they should not be planted in an area that receives regular summer watering or rainfall. Some people find that their Saffron Crocuses do best when planted under eaves, or an overhang. This way, the rain does not reach them during the summer when the corms should be dry, and when the crocuses need consistent (but not too much) water in the fall and spring, they can be watered by hand. Saffron crocus multiply readily under the right conditions - 1 bulb will turn into a cluster of 5 or 6 in just 3 years. They can be divided about every 5 years, in early summer, immediately after the corms go dormant – the extra corms can be given to family and friends if desired, or simply replanted - properly spaced - to make a bigger saffron patch.

**Q: Are these crocus sativus bulbs? I understand there are different kinds of "saffron" plants.**
A: This are crocus sativus bulbs (as dimensions bigger as usual seeds), almost like tulip bulbs size. The flower is not only decorative (there are indeed other seeds for decorative crocus flower) but also produce 3 red stigmas (pure saffron). This bulbs are originate from Turkey and produce one of the best concentrated pure saffron red stigmas.

**Q: Hi .. how much the Shipping Weight ? If i request 80 pcs**
A: They are light as could be weight is not any problem.

**Q: when is this saffron blooming season?**
A: I believe bloom season is supposed to be in mid autumn. It's advisable to plant the bulbs in June, they'll probably skip that first fall, and grow through the next year before flowering in fall.

**Q: Is this shipped domestically in the u.s.? i wanted to make sure i wasn't going to lose this to customs before i consider ordering.**
A: I received notice that my order would take 2 months.  I am on the East cost of the US.  Checking my order shows there coming from China.
