It absolutely is, and it serves my purpose - just don't expect to be able to use the heavier condenser microphones, or put this through extreme paces. If you are a home studio person or you-tuber that wants to get your smaller mic off the desk & out of the way while looking a little bit "cooler" in your setup, then go for it - you cannot beat the price.The whole unit is aproximately 2&1/2 feet high fully extended with each section being about a foot. As such, this does not have an extreme height (It wont reach over the top of a 27" monitor). I originally envisioned setting this up behind my monitors, and have the microphone "reach over the top", I wound up setting the mic up to the side of my workstation.It comes with a thread reducer that allows you to use your current shock mount or microphone mount with the arm. One caution is that the shock mount and reducer screws are plastic, so be very careful or you will easily mis-thread.Not sure if this will stand up to much manhandling or abuse...I tend to pamper my equipment so it will survive. For those that are rough on their music equipment, consider this to be a disposable option.Once again, this is not to disparage this product, as it serves its purpose...I may even wind up getting a second one for another application due to the economics of this stand. For those that are looking to try the "boom mic life" without investing in the more expensive options, this is a low impact way to try the workflow. Worst case you are out of no more than $20. Medium case - you like the "boom mic" life, and the experiment lets you know what to look for in an upgrade. Best case (like me) this works for your application, and it stops there. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 3-5 stars, depending on what you're looking for. *by F***R on Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2018* I bought a pair of these for an experiment with the intention of using them with a matched pair of fatbody microphones, and since the price was right, I figured I'd find some use for them if they didn't fit my purpose.First off, even though I believe I paid a bit less than the current price, it is still a pretty good value, but also realize that "you get what you pay for" does apply.Second, while all of the components are fairly "cheap", it is still functional, and it just makes it into the Goldilocks Zone of the key things I needed, and then kind of fails on other things I needed (that may not apply to you).5 stars: You have a narrow-body mic, and you don't have very high demands for getting the mic into an exact place.3 stars: You have a fat-body mic, and you want a mic to float into place, and for the mic and the pop-screen to lock in place where you set them.Although this assembly very much resembles (because it is) that of a similar style lamp, you can move the arm around without any sound in the springs, though its movement is not fluid, and the swiveling at its foot (where the clamp attaches to the desk) almost feels like some part is missing (something like a plastic washer to keep it level and allow it an even range of motion). If you're not moving it around too much while in use, this would be a non-issue.Secondly, the shock mounts that come with it, as you might expect, are made entirely of plastic, and don't have a particularly strong grip. They will accommodate smaller-body microphones starting at a diameter of about 1.5" (~4cm). You could use it with a smaller mic, but you'd have to wrap the mic in something. While you can expand it from this size, you're just bending plastic, so it does not maintain its round shape, and while it could be expanded, perhaps, to fit a fatter-body mic, it may not then fit inside the shock ring itself.Also, if you have an alternate shockmount you want to use, take note of the dimensions of the threads on the mount, as this stand has only a small thread. You might need an adapter, or a different shockmount. In my case, I actually cannibalized one of my MXL shockmount clamps and put it into the provided shockmount ring, using their elastic, and it appears to have worked beautifully.Positive here, though: the elastic it ships with has maintained its shape! Some shockmount elastic bands I've used, for whatever reason, just go slack on their own over time-- even from expensive shockmounts.The popscreen itself is actually very functional-- it's double-layered, and mounted onto a gooseneck arm that does a fairly good job of holding its position (though, definitely not professional grade). It all works fairly well.If your demands aren't very high, and you're willing to do a little tinkering, then definitely grab one. ### ⭐ Total Junk *by H***4 on Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2020* Very cheaply made. Don't expect to hold any microphone with some weight to it. Mount came stripped since it's just super thin metal, so it wouldn't even clamp to my desk. Can't use any of my professional large-diaphragm mics on it like my Shure KSM32, CAD GXL3000 or AT4033a. They just drop like an anchor. All of the mic clip attachments are cheap plastic or thin sheet metal.
