If you don't put a piece of leather between clamp and the work piece it will dent the work piece. And on top of it , it doesn't create enough tension to even stretch the straps fully. I can't return it since its past the return window, it's a complete waste of $50. Works better than standard canvas pliers because, like lock-jaws, it stays gripped freeing up both hands. However, when the edge of the canvas is skimpy the jaws either slip or the canvas rips.
