Do I need to buy an extra piece of wood?** A: Hi. It’s not made with a base because the usual way of using it is to place it somewhere in your garden, on bare earth or grass, so that if the roots of anything you plant need to grow further down, they can. It’s generally used either for planting on top of compacted earth or to gain height for easy access. In this case the tiers also give you height before you start planting so you can create extra height, & therefore privacy with your border planting, in one season. Of course it’s also great for growing mixed crops of veg. If you want to place it on concrete or stone it’s ok if your proposed plants have short roots - I would suggest putting a membrane down on the ground & attaching it to the inside of the frame - but in any case you would need to ensure there is a way for the water to drain out of the bottom. I would also suggest a layer of stones or large gravel in the base, to assist drainage, in any situation. I’m going to be using mine for border planting on top of very weedy & compacted grass, to contain the planting, give height at the back for perennial plants, to help me with weeding because I can’t kneel or bend easily, to contain anything that goes a bit crazy & to have the clearly defined front section for bulbs & annuals. Our Raised Garden Bed is Made of harmless solid wood, natural resistance to rot and pests. **Q: How many litres of soil would it take to fill this ?** A: I used 9, 50 litre bags of multipurpose compost.
