They arrive with a sort of stiff feeling to them, instructions suggest machine washing once. They are made from a nice sturdy, yet moderately soft natural cotton yarn. The knitted pattern makes the texture feel like a bunch of small fingers. Cleans off dirt and natural body oils well. I think it lightly exfoliates as well, since my skin seems softer and cleaner from a few weeks use. I use it to wash myself head to toe and it holds up well, considering I have rough stubble and shave my head. In my opinion works better than cotton washcloths you would get at a big box store, and it says you are supporting a charity type cause.
