## Description

Don't Go Bananas - A CBT Game for Kids to Work on Controlling Strong Emotions

Review: Might help some but not really suitable for children distressed by confrontation - After looking through the deck and how the game would be used, it's immediately apparent that this just wouldn't work for any child from whom direct conflict causes distress, which in many cases is that causer of the visible "strong emotions" with which this games seeks to assist. CBT can be useful for the right person in the right context. This game however is simply too confrontational, more akin to aversion therapy wherein the child is repeatedly forced to face the things that causes distress until, hopefully, they become immune to it. Wholly unsuitable for asd/pda and therefore returned to desertcart.
Review: Fantastic resource - Great game for helping kids talk about their feelings. I use at school

## Features

- Warning:Not suitable for children under 36 months
- Based on the ABCD Model of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Kids work to identify what triggers their emotions, analyze the beliefs they have about those situations, explore their reactions and look for ways to change their thought patterns.
- Tackling 5 Emotions: The game works through 5 strong emotions - anger, sadness, worry, fear and jealousy. Players answer question prompts about different emotions and situations as they play the cards
- Simple to play: 2-4 Players take turns building each color pile. Semi-cooperative play means if someone can’t help their own piles, they help someone else’s pile. Helping build social skills along with working on emotions.
- For Parents and Professionals: Teachers can play Don't Go Bananas with small groups of kids in the classroom or parents can play with their kids at home. Adults playing along can help kids see first hand positive ways to process emotions and feel more comfortable giving their own answers
- 2-4 Players Ages 6-12: A variety of questions makes this game versatile for a larger age group. More thought provoking questions can be added or removed for easier or tougher gameplay

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the difference between this game and mad dragon?**
A: Both games use prompts to get kids to answer questions about their feelings. Both use Tarot size cards and bright illustrations.

The few significant differences are that Don't Go Bananas focuses on 5 emotions (anger, sadness, jealousy, worry, fear) and Mad Dragon is focused solely on anger.

Don't Go Banana's questions are based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy's ABCD model whereas Mad Dragon doesn't use a psychological method for their prompts (as far as I know).

Lastly the gameplay varies in that Mad Dragon is based on Crazy Eights/Uno and Don't Go Bananas has its own original game mechanics of stacking 1, 2, 3 cards.

**Q: Do you draw a new card every time you play a card?**
A: You draw a new card every turn. So you can either draw a card at the beginning of your turn or the end - as long as you're consistent with whichever method you chose. You want to keep 5 cards in your hand for the whole game - because the goal is to complete your piles - not get rid of all your cards.

Creator of Don't Go Bananas

**Q: Is this item and the suggested 2 items to order it with appropriate for preschoolers?**
A: I can't speak to other companies products (and because Amazon changes the suggestions regularly), but Don't Go Bananas is rated for ages 6-12, so it would not be appropriate for the majority of pre-school age kids.

Creator, Don't Go Bananas.

**Q: What Console Does This Work With?**
A: The game is actually a card game and is not a video game applicable to a console.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great product!
*by A***R on 30 July 2025*

This is a great game to get children engaged in conversation about feelings and their response to feelings. It's competitive enough to keep them engaged while not being too intense to focus on processing feelings. Highly recommend!
