I don't want one of my cats to get stuck in there (most cats can open doors, but mine aren't the smartest cat's you'll meet). Anyway, it's too strong for such a lightweight door, so I stuck a sticker to the door portion and that reduces the magnetic hold so that it's just strong enough. Previously, you had to pull the door pretty hard and it made a loud bang when it finally popped loose from the magnet.Also: I went to a doctor's appointment at a new medical facility recently and noticed they had this exact thing installed there. It is apartment friendly, looks nice, very easy peel and stick install, and very strong. My apartment door has hinges that automatically closes the door so there is some mild resistance and the strength of this thing surpasses the pull of those hinges. It will work on any type door, mine is painted metal. If you want to screw it in your door or wall it come with screws and drywall pegs or anchors(not sure what they are called). It can be install in different ways instructions illustrate the different ways. I love that I discovered this. It's a huge help holding the door open while I bring my groceries in.
