Review: Works Well With HomeKit-Aware Devices - IR Blaster A Bonus - This hub makes a solid connection to my 2.4 gHz WiFi network and provides good coverage. Most (and so far for me, all) Aqara smart items bridged through it can be addressed in HomeAssistant through the HomeKit integration. No need to bother with Matter - unless you want to. The IR blaster, however, only functions with the phone app and does not expose paired items with HomeAssistant - and that it's only minus in my opinion. However, as I view the IR blaster as a nice bonus, and not core to the product I didn't dock the item a star in my rating. However, if the IR blaster were to be exposed - now, that would be something special! Devices are easy to set up and this hub performs a good as advertised. It's price point makes it a good choice for any home wanting to add good Zigbee coverage for the Aqara ecosystem. Nice. Also, note that I run this hub alongside another Zigbee coordinator (a USB stick) and both networks function without issue even though my 2.4 gHz spectrum is pretty saturated with competing networks. Again, nice!
Review: So Complicated to set up with a simple solution - This is a combo review with the Aqara u100 smart lock. This took me hours to set up. I bought the Aqara Smart Hub and Aqara u100 smart lock together. The lock was easy to install onto the door and paired up to the app so fast. I got HomeKit connected to the lock with no problems. I could NOT get the hub to connect to HomeKit. This took me such a long time to figure out. Turns out, you need to have your Apple hub set up and turned on. The documentation didn't say this and the Home and Aqara apps did not say to do this. I had no idea until hours of attempts. Make sure HomeKit hub is turned on and Home is set up. Connect the lock through the Apple Home app. Download Aqara app and go into settings, HomeKit, and bind the hub to the aqara app. Then you can start tweaking the settings to get the home app integration set up. You can unlock your door with password, fingerprint, hard key, NFC, via app, widget, or other assistants. This is amazing stuff! I'm transitioning from Yale x Nest which is awful. I would unlock the door and it would immediately notify me that no one is home and tells me to lock the door... It would tell me the door was unlocked when I'm staring at a locked door. The lock would get jammed constantly but ONLY when unlocking with the app after manually locking the door from the inside. Something about the knob causes a jam. This is a widely known issue with Yale x Nest owners and none of the fixes work.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works as expected.

I did not use the WiFi connectivity. I preferred using the wired connection. Attaching the device to Apple HomeKit was easy. Though, a little disappointment with the integration to HomeKit : this device seems turning around a Security System. Not like the Hue bridge from Philips, you don’t find your hub. And if you delete from HomeKit the security system, all the sensor disappears. This is a bad integration. Also, temperature sensors that are added on the hub are shown in the same room as the hub. Be sure to name your sensor accordingly to their respective room if you want to know where these are installed. Conclusion, the hub is doing its job, but very poor integration to Apple HomeKit. No room sync between the Aqara Home app and the Apple Home app. The Aqara Home app seems having less functionalities regarding the Xiaomi app which is supposed to be compatible. No sensor battery status on the Aqara Home app. Need to check this on the Apple Home app. A big effort for Apple HomeKit integration is required. PS, after the sensors have been added, it’s impossible to move them to another room. I therefore deleted the hub from HomeKit and reattached it in a room called Aqara (in Home App). Maybe it is possible while you’re adding the sensors to add them one by one and move the hub from room to room before adding the sensor, and maybe the sensor will be attached to the proper room. Something to try if you have time.
