A: Hi; you can run Xbox One Games from the hard drive but S and X games need to be transfered to the internal storage or their special SSD expansion card
So, short answer is no, this Hard Drive does not work likre the expansion card

Excellent external Solid-State drive for X-Box, although with limitations. Downloaded games that DON'T specifically say they are optimised for X-Box X/S will happily install and run from this external USB drive, and there are plenty. You can set such games to install on it by default. You can't install those specific dedicated AAA titles, for those you need a specific X-Box Expansion SSD or use the original internal drive. So, if you only want to download and play the top-end AAA titles, then it's probably not for you. However, if you're poking around the GAME PASS collection for puzzles, indie, retro, Xbox One and 360 titles then it's a small miracle for the price.
