When outside lever is locked, latch bolt is operated by turning inside lever. This keyed door lock can be used for either right or left handed applications. The 5-Inch handles work independently of each other. The exterior handle is removable for ease of rekeying. Review: The instructions recommended through bolts, but I did not use them as it's a low use lock. You can get a good squeeze on a steel door without them. The screws have serrations in them to prevent them from backing out, so if you detect grinding, it's probably just doing its job. Follow the instructions exactly, particulary on mounting the lock key lever. If you try to wing it, the lock won't work right. Rotate the lock clockwise 90 deg with one hand and insert the lever with the key with your other hand. Took me a couple times. The levers have some play in them, so not super high quality. It's a value lock at a value price. It won't beat the true pro brands in fit and finish, however. Review: Exactly as described. Super easy to install. A monkey could do it.
