You need two hands to hold this container, because if you to hold the container with only 1 hand, one side of this container will flop over and spill the contents. So if you like to use another hand to rub off dirt or stir your contents while you are washing, it will not work for you. I lost a lot of rice trying to wash it in this container. It is too floppy and went inside-out while I was trying to wash the rice (holding the container with 1 hand and trying to stir and wash the rice with the other), spilling much of the rice into the sink. Perhaps if you only needed to wash a little bit of rice (half a cup?), you could support it with one hand without it spilling, but I couldn't say. Really wanted to like this item, due to silicone composition. I have used the Japanese plastic rice washer with better success, but would prefer not to use plastic. Maybe if they had a silicone-coated plastic rice washer. It's very soft - sided and doesn't stay open (it's curled up). How do other people use it effectively as a strainer? Seems like it will be difficult without using it in a hard sided strainer.
