Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings , The Hobbit and The Silmarillion are some of the greatest tales of good versus evil ever told. From the creation of Arda to the War of the Ring, Tolkien's Middle-earth has seen war and rebellion, devastation and loss, in which the powers of darkness emerged. Here in his latest book, best-selling author and Tolkien expert David Day explores Tolkien's portrayal of evil, and the sources that inspired his work: from myth, literature and history. This work is unofficial and is not authorized by the Tolkien Estate or HarperCollins Publishers. Review: Very cool. - Good info and reading. Review: More of a cross-reference book than a lore book... - I have a few David Day books and they are hit and miss. Just like Day's Heroes of Tolkien, when I saw this title I expected a in world lore book on the Enemy and Dark Powers of Middle-earth. Much like the a-z Tolkien book he did decades ago. Yet this one is a cross reference book on what he believes are inspirations for Tolkien's creations on characters and concepts. There is some colored art pages, which are nice. Yet splattered throughout are black and white images that have been popping up in Day Tolkien books for years. If you ARE looking for a Tolkien guide that feels like it is written in the world of Middle-earth, try J.E.A Tyler. ## Features - Item Trademark: PYRAMID - manufacturer: Pyramid - Item Weight: grams, pounds, 0.94798772660, 430. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Customer Reviews | 4.8 out of 5 stars 444 Reviews | ## Images ![The Dark Powers of Tolkien: An illustrated Exploration of Tolkien's Portrayal of Evil, and the Sources that Inspired his Work from Myth, Literature and History - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/7110XJHBmjL.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very cool. *by T***T on 21 February 2024* Good info and reading. ### ⭐⭐⭐ More of a cross-reference book than a lore book... *by O***S on 19 March 2020* I have a few David Day books and they are hit and miss. --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.tn/products/329442538-the-dark-powers-of-tolkien-an-illustrated-exploration-of-tolkiens](https://www.desertcart.tn/products/329442538-the-dark-powers-of-tolkien-an-illustrated-exploration-of-tolkiens) --- *Product available on Desertcart Tunisia* *Store origin: TN* *Last updated: 2026-10-19*
