Review: Fixed my no vac and seal - Fit perfectly. Made my sealer work again. Money saved.
Review: Description says it fits 3400 foodsavers and it does, but that’s not the whole story - I have a v3485 foodsaver, and it decided to stop sealing after vacuuming . On researching this I realized it was probably the gasket (the vacuum progress light wasn’t lighting up either). The problem is this unit does not have removable gaskets (having green tabs to open the unit seems to be the indicator for this - if they are grey, the gaskets should be removable.). However, it wasn’t working so I thought it worth trying to remove and replace at least the top gasket. So I started to remove the top gasket. Sure enough it’s glued into place but I got most of it out using a sharp knife. Then I used WD40 and a lot of cotton swabs to dissolve the remaining foam and adhesive. It might have been easier to have used a plastic safe glue solvent, but I had the WD40 so… Installed the new gasket. Did not glue it in - I may yet do that but it’s seems to be staying in on its own, and most importantly, it’s now working fine. Vacuum progress light on and everything. I don’t think I will be able to replace the bottom gasket (it’s flush with the surface) but if it stops working again I’ll try prying that out also. It’s a better alternative than simply throwing the entire unit away. Note to people buying any kind of vacuum sealer - make sure the gaskets are removable, these are the parts that fail most frequently. So I didn’t need 4 but I’m sure I will have occasion to use the rest of them over time.
