I have multiple key-wound clocks throughout my home, so ticking, chiming and marking of the hour does not phase me. Curiously, my grandchildren are the same, as they absolutely cannot sleep in dead silence. The clock (that ticked) that was in their "guest" room at my house died after many years. I searched for a clock that did NOT have a sweeping second hand but rather had a "ticking" second hand. All of the reviews I read for this clock suggested this was precisely what I needed. Ordered it, put the battery in and immediately realized that this is a SILENT clock. While I do like it, and it fits in the space I needed it to be placed along with the fact that it actually works, I'm disappointed that it was not as presented: this is a SILENT clock that does NOT tick. Guess I'll be getting a noise machine or playing white noise music through our phones with an attached speaker when our grandchildren come because there is no ticking on this new clock - exactly that they would have been satisfied with but obviously did not get. Way to go, Amazon and other reviewers: I was mislead on one of the key elements of this device. **Shaking my head** If you're looking for a silent clock, this is nice.
