Keep a few centimetres away from woody stems (like an olive tree or fruit bushes), but ok all round vegetable plants. Hoping you realise to use as top dressing or mixing in with compost/soil, not intended to be planted in direct? **Q: Would you use this or composted bark? (This is cheaper but may work differently?)** A: Strulch smells nice, and less overpowering than composted bark. It will rot down over time to enrich the soil, whereas bark can rot down and deplete certain nutrients. Strulch is more effective at deterring slugs. It’s not a total deterrent but does seem to reduce slug damage. It all depends what you want the mulch to do. I used bark over weed membrane to stop weeds on an area behind my patio. It’s good if you’re not intending to grow herbaceous plants in the bed. Strulch is better in beds I think. Both are equally attractive to cats to use as a toilet. **Q: What kg are the bags please** A: If you buy a small number of bags, they are 9kg each. If you buy 10 bags or more (I think), they are 11kg. By the way, it is very easy to spread by hand - easier than many other mulches. **Q: Is strulch good for planting trees and is it safe for cats please?** A: Thank you for your query. It is excellent for planting trees, as it contains plenty of minerals, and is also safe for cats. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I really love this stuff *by A***R on 27 May 2026* I love this stuff. We have not noticed any slugs or snails since we put it down, weeds have been drastically reduced to just several surface weeds which were easily pulled out. Word of warning if you have never used strulch before, it has a strong smell reminiscent to a brewery, it only lasts for a day or two. ## Frequently Bought Together - YouGarden 2 x 100L Strulch Mulch Straw Mulch in 9kg Bags, Natural Straw Mulch for Gardens Perfect as a Natural Slug and Snail Deterrent, Mulches for Gardens UK - Hardys 60L Multi Purpose Compost - Potting & Seed Compost for Outdoor Plants | All Purpose Indoor Plants Potting | Nutrient Rich Fertiliser for Garden, Pots, Planter Beds --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.tn/products/332685835-yougarden-2-x-100l-strulch-straw-mulch-in-9kg-bags](https://www.desertcart.tn/products/332685835-yougarden-2-x-100l-strulch-straw-mulch-in-9kg-bags) --- *Product available on Desertcart Tunisia* *Store origin: TN* *Last updated: 2026-10-10*
