Review: Audio quality = AMAZING (detailed, tubey); factory QC = POOR (crackling noise, loose knobs) - AMAZING, nothing short of AMAZING, but not without its hiccups. This is my second A50 purchase, coming from the Sprout100 and the INFI hybrid class AB amplifier. For reference, my rig: TIDAL Hi-Fi subscription played with AUDIRVANA, speakers and subwoofer ELAC Debut B6.2 and DAC S.M.S.L SU-9 paired with some very good RCA interconnects. Brings tears to the eyes :) My first A50 did sound good, but within two days it malfunctioned, developing hiss and crackling noise on the right channel, similar to what others have experienced here. After several days with support (the very helpful Martina), I returned it and tried again with another purchase. Now this second one *ALSO* arrived defective, but a minor defect - the front knobs were loose and fell off the unit when assembling! Being reasonably handy I fixed it myself, but boy I was pissed! However, all it took was to turn it on... and amazing does it sound!! After breaking in a few weeks, I hereby testify the sound is somewhat holographic, delicious - I can't really stop listening to it, which is the greatest compliment any audio gear manufacturer can get. So, in short, their factory QC (or the shipping process, whatever) is indeed poor and NEEDS improvement. TWO defective units in a row! But it was all worthwhile. It works beautifully and I strongly recommend the A50 over anything you can get on desertcart regarless of the price. After coming from decades of Denon and Onkyo AVRs, then the PSAudio's Sprout100 amplifier, then the INFI's class AB hybrid tube amplifier, and *two* A50's, I'm now settled. This is an amazing purchase, regardless of the inconveniences and nuisances. Buy it! Be aware and ready to return it (once or twice) if need so, but eventually you won't be dissatisfied (do not recommend for travellers and international buyers for this reason). To the manufacturer: you *REALLY* need to pull up your socks with your factory QC and your shipping gear. When it works, the quality of the product overcomes the hassles (it is THAT good), but not all customers may have the same tolerance. All that said, congrats for this amplifier. It is marvelous. Ed
Review: Works well with speakers with 90db sensitivity. - Love the airiness and openness of voices, and stringed instruments, but I have no complaints at all with the power or sound quality of this amplifier. I was a little hesitant at first to make this purchase because I was going to power a pair of classic Advent, non-ported. Closed box, acoustic suspension, 3 way, 10 inch woofers, Advent 6003’s that I encouraged my mom and dad to purchase way back in the late 70’s. They barely used them so they were in like new condition. They were powered by a 120 watt Marantz receiver. So, being familiar with Advents I was naturally skeptical of this amp’s ability to power them sufficiently. Boy was I mistaken! My listening room is 12x 16x 17, roughly 3100 cubic feet. I listen to all genres equally, with the exception of metal, and really hard rock, all at levels loud enough to get dirty looks from my wife, and even neighbors at times, I have not been disappointed in the lease. Wonderfuly live and dynamic sound with surprisingly deep, tight, controlled bass performance. Even with the stock PSVANE 300b’s the midrange is sweet, with silky smooth highs! I usually set the volume knob between 10 & 11 o’clock, using my Mac Pro laptop and a Schmitt multibit Dac. I have used tube headphone amps previously but this my 1st tube powered amp for speakers. Extremely happy. Btw my Advent 6003’s are rated at 90db sensitivity. So don’t be put off by the seemingly skimpy 6 watt output of this amp. Been listening nearly 8 hrs a day since it arrived on Monday. Have the PSVANE 300b WE REPLICAS IN my cart and sure they will greatly enhance the sound. I should mention that nothings perfect, and yes I detect the amp clipping when set to higher output volumes, especially, and surprisingly when listening to some classical arias. I plan to help this by adding a sub woofer to relieve the amp of providing frequencies below 150htz. Best HiFi purchase in the last 10 years.

**Q: I have a full range 103db speaker and my hearing is sensitive to speaker hiss at idle.  Does this amp generate speaker hiss at idle?**
A: My speakers are 89 dB sensitivity and I can hear tube hiss at 12 o'clock on the volume control if I put my ear on the drivers without music playing.
Not a problem at listening position and at 12 o'clock the music is plenty loud in my biggish room (40x18x9).  At 105 dB it may be a problem but I guess you won't need to crank it to 12 o'clock either.

**Q: What's the difference in sound characteristics between this 300b amplifier vs an el-34 amplifier such as the boyuurange mt-34?   thank you...**
A: The 300B sound is magical in the midrange, with less definition than EL34 in the bass and treble regions.
If you're into vocals,300B is the way to go, not so much rock or electronica.

**Q: How is it that you isolate the rectifier board from the chassis?**
A: Vinh, I took an audio recording of the hum just to try and find out exactly what kind of hum it is. I inspected the recording through a spectrogram. It turns out the hum is actually a chord of hums. There are hum notes at 95hz, 120hz*, 240hz* 360hz*, 600hz, and 720hz (*these were the loudest notes). 

I used a multimeter and checked for continuity between the IEC and RCA grounds. There was continuity. I opened up the unit and removed the exact rectifier board screw you described, as per your instructions. The hum was still present. There was still continuity between the IEC and RCA.

I then tried removing all but one of the screws (I did not remove the screw that transformed the hum into a buzz when removed). The hum was still present. I checked the IEC and RCA for continuity with these three screws removed; there was continuity. Since removing those three screws did nothing, I put them back. 

Out of curiosity, I removed the one screw with the metal ring that was a part of the board underneath it. After I removed this screw I checked for continuity between the IEC and the RCA; There was NO continuity when this particular screw was removed (again, this is the screw that when removed, added unbearable buzzing to the amplifier output). I put that screw back since I already documented what this unit sounded like with this particular screw removed.

Nothing I did to the rectifier board solved my hum issue. This is a low-level hum coming from 96dB sensitivity speakers that sit about one meter away from my listening position.

Other bits of diagnosis information: If I listen to loudly mastered music playing at a low to moderate volume, I don’t hear the hum. If I listen to quietly mastered recordings at low to moderate volume, the hum is noticeable. The hum does not change whether the volume knob is at minimum or turned to maximum. The hum does not change when the input is changed between Aux, CD, and Tape. The hum did not change when there were absolutely no inputs plugged into the amplifier. Swapping the positions of all the tubes did not change the hum.

I am completely baffled.

It drives my 8 ohm, 87 dB sensitivity speakers to satisfying level.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nothing beats tube sound for me.

If you love acoustic music and you understand tubes, you will be more than satisfied with this gem. I listen mainly to jazz, blues, folk, classic rock, and classical. I have never heard anything better. Solid state (transistors) just don't do it for me. This is an integrated amplifier with three analog connections, so a CD player or tape deck can just be plugged in. If you use a turntable, you will need a phono pre-amp if the turntable does not have a built-in phono pre-amp. I have tried the amp with Elac Debut 6.0 and 6.2, RA Reference 4a, and Infinity Prius 363 loudspeakers with excellent results. [The Reference 4a and Prius 363 have been discontinued, but they are still available used.] The Prius 363 gives me all that I want. (Of course, if I could afford really expensive speakers, there might (would?) be even better sound, but I am satisfied with what I have.) This is NOT an amplifier for anyone who is just used to turning everything on and off with one switch. You need to be more careful with tubes. Read the directions and you will be fine. You CAN have beauty on a budget. P.S. Don't let the wattage fool you. I never run the amp at more than 11 or 12 o'clock on the dial. The 300B tube is everything I have heard about it.
