## Description

The Pineapple Guava is a slow-growing, multistemmed shrub that can be trained to a small tree with a single trunk, espaliered, or pruned to form a dense hedge or screen. Without any pruning, the shrub may reach 15' high. The egg-shaped leaves are 2"-3" long and silvery underneath. The edible flowers are very attractive, about an inch cross with white petals and showy scarlet stamens. The edible fruits are round or egg-shaped, 1"-3" long, with waxy blue-green or gray-green skins and juicy greenish white pulp.Location:The feijoa is native to subtropical Paraguay, Uruguay, northern Argentina and southern Brazil. Light: Full sun to part shade.Moisture: Feijoas will thrive with little care in most well-drained soils. They rarely have any disease or pest problems, do,t need much fertilizer and usually don't need supplemental watering except in very dry climates.Hardiness: Feijoas are adapted to USDA Zones 8 and 9, and do best where the winters are cool (they are hardy to 10 degrees F) and the summers moderate (between 80 degrees and 90 degrees F).The Pineapple Guava also makes a great patio plant, outside during the summer and indoors during the winter.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the variety name of this plant?  Is it Coolidge by any chance?  Anyone had success with a single plant, or are two plants needed?**
A: I'm sorry, I don't know the name of this particular plant.    I ordered one plant, but two small ones were sent, so I put them in the same pot and they are doing very well.   Nothing was said about needing two plants when I ordered.

**Q: Does this plant need a pollinator?**
A: I had two plants.  One died.  Produced more fruit when there was a pollinator, BUT still produces fruit without one.  Just doesn't product quite as much.  Not a big difference.

**Q: What are the dimensions of the plant/age?**
A: This is a very slow growing plant. Ours are 7 years old and aprox 4 feet tall.  Not very bushy either.  They do produce fruit each year which has an interesting taste.  Ours are at the edge of a flower bed but have not had a lot of special care given to them.  Basically planted them and performed only basic upkeep.  They are hardy in zone 8 and have very pretty flowers.
