But, it is important that the connection between the D+ port and the 12V battery has an on/off switch in it, so that charging is only initiated once the engine is running (otherwise you will completely run down your car/RV battery in no time). In summary, (i) have a lead from the D+ ignition port in the DC-to-DC charger to a simple on/off switch, (ii) have a lead from the on/off switch to the positive terminal of the 12V battery (e.g. connect this lead to the positive charging cable); fuse this lead if you think necessary, (iii) connect the positive charging cable to the 12V battery (which will simultaneously connect the D+ lead) and the negative cable to the negative terminal (iv) turn on the engine (and thereby, the alternator) (v) switch the D+ ignition lead switch to ON (green light on DC-to-DC charger should show, indicating charging is underway) When the charging session is finished, just reverse the above steps. **Q: Is this charger suitable for a hybrid vehicle charging 2 caravan batteries?** A: There should be no reason why you can't. I would download the manual from renogy as this will give you a better idea. You will have to feed from your car battery and also feed a d+ from your ignition or alternator to the charger. Make sure to use mega or nano fuses as the resettable one I first tried led me to think the charger was faulty as it was only allowing 3.5amps through it.
