There may be caps that are larger, but this one isn't and is described accurately. **Q: My newel post is exactly 4 x 4. Will this cap fit it?** A: My husband indicated that the posts we have are slightly smaller than exactly 4 x 4 allowing the cap to fit. Not sure if this is the same for you. Hope this helps. **Q: Can these caps be painted?** A: Yes, I intend to paint mine to go on a white painted front steps railing. We had storm damage to our deck and had a bit of trouble finding these. Here they are at a great price! They are super easy to install. Just set them over your 4x4 post and shoot some finishing nails around the base. We use liquid nails inside the cap for extra hold as well. Our old post caps took a beating with the weather and held up really well until a limb from a tree crushed them.
