The YouTube videos of the Trem King got me interested. Amazon Prime had the TKS-3 listed off and on for about $20 (and $96 the next day,) so I picked one up and the templates after contacting Trem King and inquiring about the thickness requirements because I intended to install on a pinecaster that was barely 1.5" thick. Rusty from Trem King advised against using anything thinner than a Squire, so I picked up a loss-leader Bullet Tele to work on.When I received the Trem KIng and reviewed the online directions, much tooling had to be purchased, and when you start routing the body, you know that all it takes is one slip and you've wrecked the guitar, no matter how accurate your measurements are. It went well, although the routing directions didn't take into account the skinnier than usual Squire dimensions and the pocket cut had to be enlarged beyond what was specified.The design is interesting, with a positive center, but the whammy bar placement makes palm muting a bit uncomfortable. It is quite pretty and thanks to the inclusion of extra, longer intonation screws, I was able to get spot-on intonation.Was it worth it? Even at the give-away price I got, with the cost of templates and tooling and a day's labor, a Bigsby Telecaster setup would have been cheaper, although dive-bombing wouldn't have been possible.Yes, it stays in tune, but if you only use a tremolo for a little steel guitar warble, a properly set up Bigsby, real or fake, a Teisco or a Strat trem works fine.I would recommend this only to the highly motivated fan of whammy histrionics and master luthiers.Update: After several hours of use, it's become obvious that this is the be-all end-all of tremolo machines and yes, it IS worth it.
