A socket outlet at120v is what's needed. **Q: Is the gear supposed to spin before making the socket spin ?** A: Yes it winds up with a horrific spin and then it hammers 1 time. Repeated over and over. Mine lasted 10 bolts before blowing up. I bought a 20volt battery electric. **Q: how many watts does this need?** A: Question is somewhat confusing. The unit shown is a 12 Volt that operates off regular 120 V house current. In that regard it is an awesome piece of equipment far more powerful than I expected. On the other hand, trying to use this with the AC plug in some pickup trucks, you need to determine the amperage of that circuit and the listed wattage for the AC plug by the vehicle manafacturer. **Q: Can I plug it into AC instead of a cigarette lighter?** A: No. It only runs from a battery. Must be the right battery. A cigarette lighter plug does not put out enough power. This impact wrench is powerful. The battery that I use is interchangeable with other tools.
