(thank you)** A: The bristles are not made from synthetic fiber as you were led to believe... the description clearly states its bristles come from kolinsky red sable which is in fact a type of weasel/ squirrel. **Q: what is the length with the cover on** A: The length with the cover on for travel is 3 5/8 inches (9.3 cm). The length of the brush in use is 5 3/4 inches (14.6 cm). **Q: How well do these brushes do large washes on sizes like 7x10, 9x12? I wanted to get a Silver Brush synthetic squirrel, but they only go up to size 8.** A: For large washes I prefer a 1/2" or 3/4" flat brush when I have the ability to take all my gear with me. However for travel use and minimal kit the larger travel brushes do work okay. The 7x10 and 9x12 sizes you mention aren't that big and the size 10 & 12 travel brushes should do okay for you in this 1573 travel series. (I'm a woodsman who likes to sketch and paint and most of my art is landscape & wildlife while hiking and doing bushcrafting. My watercolor painting is often in 5x8 and 7x10 sizes with the occasional 9x12 & 11x14. I use the 4, 6, 8 & 10 size brushes in this travel series along with a 1/2" flat brush with short handle when I can fit it into the kit) **Q: Would this brush be suitable for acrylics? Or would I ruin it?** A: I agree with Cate in the answer above. Straight from the tube, acrylics would be too viscous for this type of brush.
