## Description

Battery

Review: Perfect fit for 2013 Prius V. Read this for installation tips. - Battery arrived promptly heavy and double-packed. Perfect fit for the well inside my 2013 Prius V. Arrived fully charged, but if yours is not be sure to fully charge it before installation. My old battery went completely dead after about 2 weeks of non-driving. Can't complain about 6 year battery life. No problem, I'll charge it like any 12V car battery. Even though the 12V battery is buried in the rear of the car, Toyota has helpfully provided an access point for the positive electrode under the hood. Make sure your charger can handle "AGM" type batteries. Most new "smart" chargers do. My 12V charger tried but gave up after about 5 minutes, even though I tried it about four times. Classic chicken-and-egg problem. To replace the 12 volt battery you need to open the rear hatch, but the hatch latch requires the 12 volt power you do not have. No problem, check YouTube for how to mechanically open a rear Prius hatch. Plenty of advice about the little silver lever you access by taking the rear deck apart, but my V has no such lever. I spent about an hour futzing around with flashlight, magnifier and two broken fingernails but could never find any type of mechanical release inside the tiny opening revealed by removing a pop-off plastic cover. In desperation I tried charging a few more times (some deeply discharged batteries require this) and finally there was just enough juice to operate the rear latch. A 10 mm socket wrench is all you need to remove a top bracket and the two electrode clamps. The positive clamp has a swing-away red plastic cover, revealing a second 10 mm nut. You do not need to remove this one, only the one holding the clamp onto the positive electrode. The positive electrode is a very tight fit, requiring a flat blade screwdriver to slightly coax the jaws apart after loosening the nut. Four nuts total. Be sure to unplug (and reconnect ) the little rubber hose (vent?) on the short edge of the battery facing the front of the car. Be warned that a Prius 12V battery naturally and slowly discharges even when the car is parked because on-board electronics such as remote locks require power all the time. It's advised to drive the car after extended rest periods to recharge the 12V battery. To avoid the chicken/egg nightmare I encountered I plan to replace it every 4-5 years or so, before it gives up. If someone can shed light on the mechanical rear latch release please let us know.
Review: Perfect fit for 2013 Prius - Took all of 17 min. to replace and have the car up and running. Couldn't believe the price compared to shops and Toyota dealerships. All you need is a 10mm box end and a 10mm socket. Watch one of the many videos on YouTube showing the process -- and then go to it. BTW, if your current battery is totally dead, you may not be able to unlock the hatch. There is a safety release lever that you can crawl to (once again, see YouTube), or, if you're able to wait until the new battery arrives, just take some jumper cables and hook up the new battery to the proper contacts, wait a minute or so, and then open it up (making sure you have the remote close by). Clear out your hatch and you're ready to get started. I live in SoCal and this took only a day and a half to arrive. Looks like it came out of Riverside. Not only was this a great price ($148 at the time, but just noticed it jumped to $160...still a big savings), but there was no core charge. Now I just have to find a place that will buy the old one...and save even more! Like my Pappy used to say, 'that's slicker than a pair of eels makin' love in a bucket o' snot!'

## Features

- Note: Refer a user manual before use
- Durable design protects against the worst enemy of a truck battery – road vibration (compared to standard flooded batteries)
- Calcium alloy is optimized to produce a fine grain, corrosion-resistant grid, maximize cycle life and minimizes water consumption for battery durability
- Fully charged ACDelco Batteries (OCV is >12.5) should be stored in an upright position at temperatures between 32°F and 70°F. When a battery is stored, a very slow chemical reaction takes place between the plate materials and the electrolyte, causing a slow discharge. This reaction, called a self-discharge, occurs more rapidly at higher temperatures. Therefore, it is not recommended to store next to a furnace or other heat source. If an ACDelco Battery is completely discharged, the electrolyte will freeze when stored below 30°F. To prevent electrolyte freezing and battery damage, do not store ACDelco Batteries below 30°F if their OCV is less than 12.5 volts. Check battery every 2 months and maintain a voltage of 12.4 volts or higher

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How is an AGM battery different than a conventional battery?**
A: An AGM battery uses a fiberglass mat to absorb the electrolyte that’s essential for energy storage and delivery. A conventional “flooded” battery contains a liquid electrolyte. The AGM design makes the battery spill-proof and maintenance-free.

**Q: What are the benefits of an AGM battery?**
A: An AGM battery’s maintenance-free design makes it spill-proof and resistant to vibrations. It also offers up to twice the life of conventional flooded batteries, along with more power and Cold Cranking Amps than conventional flooded batteries.

**Q: Do I have to replace an AGM battery with another?**
A: Yes. If the original-equipment battery was an AGM battery, it’s important to replace it with another. That also goes for “aux” batteries in vehicles with Start/Stop technology and other features with unique electrical demands.

**Q: What is an “aux” battery?**
A: Some vehicles use an auxiliary battery as a part of a more complex electrical system with increased demands. Typically, these “aux” batteries are used in vehicles with Start/Stop technology as well as hybrid vehicles and battery-electric vehicles.

**Q: Can I use an AGM battery in a vehicle that did not originally come with one?**
A: In most cases, the answer is yes. Most modern vehicles can accommodate an AGM battery as a direct replacement. Some vehicles, however, may have compatibility issues when it comes to the charging and voltage needs for an AGM battery.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect fit in my 07 Prius w/ smart key
*by L***P on January 10, 2018*

Very fast shipping. Perfect fit in my 07 Prius w/ smart key. The product dimensions listed are wrong, they are for the carton that GM shipped the battery to Amazon in. The shipping label is still on the carton along with all the appropriate warning stickers about which way should be up. Very well padded as mentioned in other posts. The actual battery is 5"W x 9.25"L x 8" H not including the posts. Same W and L as the 4yo Parts Plus AGM that it replaced. 1/4 " taller tho, but the hold down bracket fit it perfectly. The PP battery may have been shorter than the OEM it replace but I don't remember. The OEM lasted 7 years btw, Some one at Amazon should have a talk with the maroon who thought the dimensions of the shipping carton would be helpful to anyone. They also need to have a chat with the packer who, in spite of ACDelco's labels as to which way is up, laid it down in a big smiley box with a single sheet of brown paper over it (for what purpose I don't know). Yes, I do know it is a sealed battery, but maybe ACDelco knows something we don't. In any event, it is not a decision an Amazon packer should be making. A 10 and 12 mm wrench with extension, a screw driver and a half hour is all you need to put it in. The you tube videos are helpful, takes longer to get the old one out then to put the new one in. The vent tube elbow fits well when inserted correctly, Look it over before you put the battery in place. Un-screwing the ground cable from the body is easier than fighting with the battery clamp. It's the first thing you should do when removing and the last thing when installing.
