I have walls in an older home that are about 8 inches thick. This pull-up bar only fits walls that are 7 inches at most. I had to look all over the house for someplace where the wall was thin enough to fit this. I eventually found out my walk-in closet (a recent renovation) was thin enough. Now, I have to wallk back to my bedroom closet to exercise. It's not ideal, but it works. Six to seven inches is the ideal range for wall-thickness here.
