Her recognition in high school, club and college soccer, to her being cut from the womens U21 team.She meets her trainer James, and her life changes.James takes Carli and helps her to train, become physically fit, unselfish, and a good teammate - although Carli remains a bit neurotic.Other things happen to Carli however, as her relationship with her parents goes from great to no relationship.Eventually Carli does make it back to the Womens National Team, and goes on to win 2 Olympics, and finally a World Cup.The book talks about the relationships that Carli has with teammates, families, Brian (her seemingly saint like) boyfriend, parents, coaches and friends.While the effort and dedication that Carli Lloyd has to herself and to soccer is inspirational, it was very difficult (as a parent) to see her relationship with her parents dissipate to no contact for years. It always takes two parties to tango -as they say - and in this case, you cant help but feel that Carli is a tad bit selfish. And shame on her parents for allowing themselves to just ignore and avoid their own daughter. I was going to give the book 4 stars for this reason - until I realized that life is not like a movie - bad things do happen to good people, and not all problems can be solvedI found myself cheering for Carli, Cheering for her and her family to get back together (which did not happen in the book), and for my own kids to recognize the dedication to success that they will need, whether they continue to play sports or they choose other careers. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Go Carli! *by S***S on Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2019* I loved the gut wrenching honesty here. It is her story, cathartic in nature. I am a therapist and was really touched by the pieces about her relationship to family. As we navigate into adulthood, some of us should find family that support the “us” we choose to be. As a mother, I’m continually amazed how difficult it can be to leave my kids alone to their own journey. Bravo Carli! I loved the details in how hard she worked. I’m often a task master when I want something bad enough. Carli does. I watched her score a goal at the last game when she played against NC Courage recently. I was so happy to see her play and started to cheer only to remind myself-she’s on the opposing team!
