It is designed to control the water pressure shock and prevent water hammer conditions that are damaging to pipes and appliances. It consists of a stainless-steel top and lower chamber, sealed-in diaphragm which flexes to absorb the shock, and a lead-free brass hex adapter for easy installation. This may be installed in new or existing plumbing systems vertically, horizontally or at any angle and should be installed as close to the shock source as possible, with one unit for each hot and cold-water line up to 150 psi (10.6 BAR) working pressure. But, I have recently dealt with this hammering in my sprinkler line system and I finally had to install the large hammer arrestor (like you see on water heaters) on my sprinkler line. The automatic sprinkler valves open and close so quickly it is the perfect condition to cause water hammer and mine was bad. That required someone with plumbing knowledge. It continued to get worse in its ability to hold air pressure and the water hammer come back in full force. Unfortunately, it's past the time I could return it (30 days) so I'm out of $51. I ended up getting a product from Home Depot called Water Worker 2 Gal. Pressurized Well Tank. It cost $44.97. A friend bought and installed it and told me it had a five year warranty. It's too big to hide inside the wall so it's on the floor in a closet which backs up to a shower in the bathroom. If this loses any pressure, in can be refilled with air. The volume of air is so small it's difficult to get it to the right pressure.
