Lyposomal means literally "in a fatty form" or in this case encapsulated in fat for more complete absorption in the body. Fats can go bad after a while, so refrigeration will help it last past the exp date. I have taken refrigerated packets 6 months after the date. I will notice a slight color and smell change and after that I throw the rest away. I think keeping it cold helps me take it - as I take a swig of water, then cut a packet with scissors across the top and squeeze it directly to the BACK of my Tongue.
