I used it as a weed barrier so a pathway that I then covered in wood chip mulch. It worked for that and the pathway stAyed open and eeeds did not penetrate. **Q: Can extra length be used as shade cover for plants?** A: I’ve never used it in that way. It’s very opaque. I would try it before doing a big space. **Q: Can I use this for a french drain?** A: I don’tknow. I would would be skeptical. **Q: Can I use this for a french drain?** A: I would’t. While water will pass through it, a French drain handling a lot of water might not be a good idea. The water passes through it slowly.
