Players choose to lead Viking invaders or English defenders in a historically immersive, team-based battle for control of England. ## Description

The year is 878. For the past 75 years, Viking raiding parties from Norway and Denmark have been terrorizing the coasts of England with ‘hit and run’ attacks. The treasures and stories gained from these attacks have allowed the Norsemen to raise huge hosts of eager men seeking glory and riches. These armies now stand poised to thunder across England where they will settle and farm the fertile land they conquer. The divided English kingdoms are unprepared for this impending onslaught. The Vikings are coming! In 878: Vikings – Invasions of England, players control the invading Vikings or the English nobles who are trying to withstand the invasion. Viking players either play as Norsemen Viking freeman or as the fearless Viking shock troops known as Berserkers. The English play as the Housecarl, the Kings’ household troops, or as the Thegns who were regional noble Leaders. The English players will also be able to call up the peasant levies, called the Fyrd, to defend their cities. Players for each side strategize together in order to coordinate their strategies. Each side attempts to control Cities on the map to win. The English start the game controlling all of England but a Viking Leader will invade from the sea each Turn. The English players raise reinforcements from cities they control, while the Vikings must wait for a up to date invasion for reinforcements. The game ends when the Treaty of Wedmore is called and the side controlling the most cities wins the game.

**Q: Is this a Re-Print version of the base game? The box artwork is different from the original but the board and pieces look the same**
A: Yes, 878 Vikings - Invasions of England 2nd Edition is a reprint of the original game first published in 2017.  The first edition has a rectangular shaped box with artwork based on a painting we commissioned from Stephen Paschal and the map board has four-folds.  The second edition has a square box with digital art created by and Academy Games artist and has a slightly larger map board with six-folds.   The second edition does not include the plastic organizing trays which the first edition has, but the components are unchanged.

878 vikingos es un war game dirigido por tarjetas con el objetivo de control de área. Las reglas son sencillas de dominar y se aprenden de manera fluida durante la primer partida. Para los no expertos parecería un juego inbalanceado hacia los vikingos por las invasiones de cada turno o hacia los ingleses por la cantidad de refuerzos. Pero se compensa con las tarjetas y los dados. Los ingleses se mueven poco y sus dados no son tan ofensivos. Los vikingos pueden moverse a mayor distancia y aunque los Berserkers tienen más opciones de dañar con los dados siempre son la primer baja en los combates. Parecería que la partida se decanta a uno u otro bando pero los turnos son elegidos al azar y podría cambiar totalmente el momentum de la partida. Es excelente para 4 jugadores ya que en todo momento el equipo de cada dado puede interactuar y si en los combates están las unidades de cualquier bando presente se tiene que jugar tus propios dados.
