I get extended bass, smooth natural midrange and voices, and fine treble that lets me hear cymbals without voices being sibilant. My net searches show they are discontinued, so I'm treating them like the gold that they are. I know that the main failure for headphones is when the wires break in the cord - - - so very careful handling by me until they just die of old age. These little pads fit perfectly on my older Sony MDR-G52 headphones. Comparing the material that basically shredded when I took the old ones off (I wasn't not violent about it! ) I'd be willing to bet these replacement pads are thicker, stronger and better made than the pads that Sony put on to begin with! For $1 a pair, you can't beat the price. When they arrived, I compared them to the diameter of the old ones, and they were slightly smaller. This could possibly be in part to stretching of the old covers, but regardless, they did fit my Sony MDR-G45 headphones, which is what mattered. I also noticed these are made from a slightly thicker, stiffer, more coarse feeling foam. The upside to that is they may last longer because of this. The downside is they are a little more abrasive, but only time will tell if it is going to be noticeable. For stationary listening, I doubt I will notice. If you move around a lot (like jogging, or working out) you may notice the difference. I deducted one star from the rating not because I am not happy with the product, but because I believe a 5 star rating should indicate a perfect product overall. I think this is a great deal on a good product.
