You set the temperature and that's what you get. We used to have a large one to prepare meals for the entire family, but now it is just the two of us and the old larger one that you had to wash by had didn't get used. So, I purchased this one. I like that it was smaller, and you could put it in a dishwasher, and it has the temperature thermostat. But, after I ordered it, I got to thinking that it may be too small to be practical, so I waited a long time before opening it because I was thinking of sending it back. I short, I decided to keep it, and I am very glad I did. There are a lot of things I like about it. It seems to be made very well, not flimsy or cheap fealing. While it thought it might be too small, it's not. I find it to be larger than I thought it would be, but not big. Just right. If you find it too small, then you really wanted a big electric skillet to start with. I also like the way the electrics hooks to the pan, and it has a trigger release for easy detachment. Why? If you have a pan of hot food, oil, sauce, or such, you don't want to be yanking on the cord to detach it and slosh burning lava everywhere. A simple squeeze and it comes off. Of course, dishwasher safe is nice, but the non-stick and its size makes it so easy to clean. We have used it several times and haven't need too. It’s a nice size for cooking a family-size meal and cleans up very easily. I like the glass lid so you can see what's cooking. The one critique I do have is the temperature setting – the heating element either comes on at full strength and burns the food or shuts off completely. I do wish that the setting would stay on until it is changed based on cooking needs.
