I counted 42 pieces. The instructions said it was plate with 40, but there was one extra red and one extra blue piece. **Q: Are there numbers on the pieces? I cannot seem them shown from the pictures.** A: The pieces are blank, but you stick the stickers on them, and yes, there are numbers in the corner of every sticker(except bombs). With a picture as well **Q: I have an old stratego game labeled 1977 by milton bradley co. several pieces are missing from the game. is it possible to buy a new set of pieces?** A: No pieces are not available as this is only sold as a set but this game can be purchased and you can use the new pieces with your nostalgic board. **Q: Is there packaging?** A: Ordered game last Christmas. Board and pieces came in a box- looked like the one at the left. We bought this game for my eight year old son after he played at a friends house, thinking it would make a good Christmas gift. It has been an amazing gift! My son loves challenging his cousins, and friends to games and even us. It’s kind of a mix of strategy between chess and risk. My teenage nephew came over and I pulled it out, and he got into the game too. We had the best time trying to deceive each other on where our spy was, or where our bombs were hidden.
