- GROW MUSHROOMS ON LOGS: Mushroom plugs work best for small to medium log inoculation projects. 100 count packs are usually enough for 1-2 logs. 500 count are usually enough for 7-10 logs.
- 100% MADE IN USA: In-house mushroom spawn production. Made in Maine from the highest quality cultures by expert Mycologists.
- TOOLS YOU WILL NEED: To grow on logs using plug spawn, you will need a drill bit, log sealing wax, and wax daubers.
- FOR BEST RESULTS: Chicken of the woods does best grown on oak logs. After colonization period in filter patch bags above ground, logs should be partially buried under 2 inches of top soil. The mushrooms will fruit from logs and emerge out of the soil.
- RECOMMENDED METHOD: Because chicken of the woods is not a strong competitor, cultivation works best when logs are first steam sterilized, then incubated and colonized in filter patch bags, and finally removed from bags and partially buried in a shaded spot.

**Q: What type of wood is best to grown them in and should I prop the log up somehow? What’s an ideal configuration?**
A: Chicken of the woods is a hard mushroom to grow and definitely needs some special considerations. One way to do it is the pasteurization/sterilization method outlined on the product page and plug pamphlet on our website: https://northspore.com/collections/plug-spawn/products/chicken-of-the-woods-plug-spawn

Another way to increase success is likely just a super high spawn rate. So, I'd probably put all these plugs into one log. You would colonize a log like this just as you would a shiitake log, but for fruiting you would want to at least partially bury the log (a trench is good). https://northspore.com/pages/grow-mushrooms-on-logs-videos

It's actually works and very good! Put the bits in an oak or fresh oak logs and enjoy the mushrooms!
