    Midtech disappointment

Meh! Not super impressed. For the money I think a ZT is a far better value. My particular knife arrived with the blade off center which is really annoying considering it doesn't take conventional tools to adjust the pivot. You have to buy the special tool kit. The blade came not terribly sharp. I touched it with a strop and cut phone book pages just OK. Honestly my Kershaw cqc-4kxl was just as sharp and perfectly centered. The thing I like is the handle. The carbon fiber woven scales are a thing of beauty and grippy. The handle is stout and has good ergonomics.Overall I wouldn't recommend this knife at this price point. The off center blade really irks me. This will go into the "B" sides of my collection.

    Bad Monkey Southern Grind

The handle is a thing of beauty and very solid. The knife is sharp out of the box. I didn't check for mini-burrs. The knife centering is off center, too far for this price point. The knife is large; the knife overall is quite heavy. Feels more like stainless than Ti. The liner lock is really stiff and therefore closure with one hand is difficult. It is even difficult with two hands. Deployment is slow. Period. Even for a large knife the blade opens with difficulty. Once the lock up is reverse with the liner, closure is difficult with a lot of friction or stiction. Assembly was clearly not carefully done and the card with the name of the assembler and the inspector is apparently not serious, doing nothing to stop this knife from going out until there were a number of corrections.

    Great large EDC.

Great knife-perfect for what us mere mortals use a knife forI've had this knife now since November 2013. I've used it for EDC and it has been my companion during a home renovation and also outdoors. It has cut carpet, boxes, tubing, plastic bags, pruned rose bushes and small trees, plastic sheeting-you name it. The Bad Monkey holds an edge well but is also easy to sharpen. The wave feature is a really nice touch. The scales have a good grip and feel great from a tactile standpoint. The whole knife feels great from a tactile standpoint. My hands are small and I find it easy to handle. It locks up solid and is assembled very well. On top of that it is just a really cool knife. I've not hunted with the knife yet, but for food prep around the kitchen, camp or the grill and smoker, it does just fine. As for the steel nerds, if you have 14C28N someone wants 154CM. If you have 154CM, someone wants S30 or 35V. For the price it could be argued that the steel is a bit lacking, but the other attributes of the knife really do offset any perceived shortcomings in the steel. The barrel standoffs and open construction are classy and practical. The clip is a bit strange but holds the knife just fine. It doesn't wave quite as well as my CQC-7 or Journeyman, but that may be operator error on my part. I'm not a Zac Brown fanboy (do like him as an artist) but do have to say that he really hit it out of the park with this knife.
