I wanted glass. I was disappointed when I got it and the top was plastic; HOWEVER, after researching it it's plastic because the metal tops on dispensers usually break down in the inside, and that's why they use plastic. Sure enough, I looked under my glass syrup dispensers with metal lids, and there was breakdown of some sort....rust? So, I felt better about the plastic lid. It looks very nice. When refilling it, you have to place your finger on the bottom so the honey doesn't leak out. That's the only little mess about these.
