Didn't last long before falling apart!
So I have had my RS10XT for 2 months and it is terminal already. Dropped it onto patio from 2 feet height and the back axle broke. Ok, not the smartest thing in the world to do, but it seems that a 2 foot drop should not destroy an axle. So after searching I found a replacement for $20 from only one seller and they are out. I really don't want to wait an unknown amount of time before I can purchase a new one, so I am scrapping it for parts. This speaks not only about my patience but also to my overall satisfaction with the truck. Is it capable? Yes, but some mods really helped. I trimmed the ugly shell. I painted the wheels and chassis black as the different colored oranges looked ugly IMO. I drilled holes in the chassis and lowered the upper deck by 2 cm. I added much needed weight to the wheels (more upfront than the back) and changed the tires for some Hot Bodies Rovers, as the stock tires are terrible. Plastic gears were changed out for metal ones. I also added velcro to the bottom of the battery as the straps did little to prevent it from sliding way forward. I changed out the steering servos for all-metal high-torque Hitec ones and after braking several servo horns upgraded to aluminum. After these mods, it was slower but more capable and more surefooted (read: did not tip over near as easily). I also limited the turning radius as the tires do dig into the motor wires as others have described. The transmitter allowed for this but I did not feel like the interface was intuitive. All in all, I spent a fair bit of money on my first crawler and now have no desire to wait to see if I can even fix it. It was good to learn on, but I have quickly grown to want more. I am building a G-made R1 for myself now and for my son I am using many of the parts (servos, Tx, RX, battery, tires) to use in an Exceed Mad Torque that I just bought to replace the rs10XT. This will sound superficial, but i think the Mad Torque looks much better too!Not a terrible first truck, but could have lasted longer and cost less to get running well.

best bang for the buck crawler made!!!
this is the best deal out there for a ready to run crawler, I have been in the rc hobbies since 1984 and have had a lot of big name crawlers over the years, axial wraith, honcho, jeep wrangler, and a couple of losi's, etc. and with a couple of cheap mods this RS 10 keeps up with the best of them, and the best part, you can buy 2 of these plus have enough left over to buy a couple of mods for the price of one axial crawler. the RS10 has a lot going for it from the get go it a has a really solid aluminum box frame with a lot of different configuration options, pretty decent oil filled shocks, metal four link suspension, and the thing I really like, REAL BEADLOCK RIMS! with heavy metal beadlock rings. the first mod I do on these is a cheap $12 metal gear servo, you can get one for a kyosho inferno on amazon for around $10 dollars, they bolt right on and have gobs of power! then bend the motor wires in and zip tie them to make room for all the extra turning radius you now have! then upgrade the battery with a higher voltage, these will handle up to 3s 11.1 volt lipo, and let me tell you, that really wakes this truck up! the gears hold up great with brushed power, but they make optional metal gears if you decide to step up to brushless power later on. all the after market bodies will fit this truck, easy to change the wheelbase if needed, also you can cut some of the lugs out of the stock tires to add more traction in the dirt, if you decide to buy one of these crawlers, check out rccrawler.com its a really good forum with a whole section devoted to the redcat rs10 crawler! buy one! you will not regret it!

Good crawler for advanced user.
This is a great crawler, but will require some modification to unlock full potential. First of all, just like the other reviewers have mentioned, the servos are terrible and will strip out immediately. I drove mine stock for about 15 minutes and the front servo stripped out. I pulled a servo from another car, and then 10 minutes later the rear servo stripped out. I bought 2 cheap metal gear servos form Amazon for $12 each and put them on front and rear and have not had any steering issues since. I also replaced the plastic servo horn with an aluminum one (no issue with plastic one, but wanted stronger aluminum). Next I changed out the tires for some Hot Bodies rover blue. Several of the bead lock screws stripped out, so I replaced those with grade 8 2mm allen screws. I sealed the rims with tape and placed 2 oz of weight in the front rims. I am running with no foam and just air pressure. I bought some soft springs to setup suspension with full droop and replaced stock NiMh battery with lipo. Crawler is now exactly how I want it and I would recommend this to anyone willing to make upgrades or modifications to their r/c car. If you want to enjoy this out of the box without having to touch anything, then this is not the car for you.

A great starter but make sure to plan to put more money into it as you go
This RC truck seems to have some serious power and runs well through all sorts of terrain. For the price I'm not sure you could beat the performance. If you like tinkering and like building obstacles to see if you can navigate them then you will get a ton of enjoyment out of this. The remote seems like it is very good quality. There are controls on it that allow you to change steering settings and trim on the fly and has a digital display to indicate current settings.Be aware that from what I can tell the ESC is not waterproof so be careful in deep snow water and mud until you can properly waterproof it. The servos appear to be at least water-resistant and probably waterproof so as long as you don't get the water way up where the ESC is you might be ok.The rear servo burned out on the first day of use. This appears to be a common issue and additionally the stock servos aren't terribly powerful to begin with. The servos are easily replaced and we had it back up and running with improved steering within about an hour.To summarize this is a great starter but definitely has some cheap servos but all parts are replaceable and upgradeable, this is after all not just a toy but a hobby.
