The introduction sets out her thesis of haiku as having been rooted in this spiritual practice. I began reading haiku when I was very young, and the little poems seemed to me to open like flowers. Their compression and attentiveness to nature showed the way to live, not missing anything and accepting everything as you find it. This book is inspiring, enjoyable reading for its selections and its guidance to writers of haiku. I was happy to see its East-West embrace of poets, and women and men writers.
