I have brown as the bottom layer of my hair and it does not effect it at all. All it does is help tone down the brassy tones in your blonde hair. The first two times I did it made my blonde like a blueish silver tone and after a few washes with regular shampoo and conditioner that tone fades and leaves a beautiful platinum tone. And it did remove the brassiness from my light brown also.. It also got a bit lighter I would say I'm more of a dark blonde now..
