I'm a novice trying to learn the mandolin but the sound of this one is not what I expected.  The e string when played  in any position, always sounds out of tune.  I use an electronic tuner, the same one I use to tune my bagpipes and violin.  I can get all of the strings tuned perfectly.  As soon and I push the e string down in any fret, it sounds out of tune and makes the cord, or picked string, sound terrible and messes up the sound of the cord or note.  It is a pretty instrument but I'm after sound.  The tuner that came with the mandolin I have not been able to use with any efficiency so I just use my other tuner.

The look and feel is very nice. The intonation needs to be setup. The strings need to be replaced. The strings that come with it are garbage but other then that I am very happy with this mandolin.
