A: I believe the insert or the description says up to 1000 gallons.

**Q: in a pinch, could a Sawyer filter be substituted for the pre-filter on the unit?**
A: Thanks for your interesting, If the Sawyer could fit into the pre-filter hose, I think it would be universal in a pinch. There are size of hose restrictions, the inner diameter of the intake and outlet hoses is 6mm.
