It's both an auto-on, or always on night light. It swivels so you can direct the light. 2. It's an emergency LED flashlight and it is REALLY nice and bright! 3. It is a bright emergency light that comes on automatically when the electricity goes off. This is mainly why I bought these; for a storm, or other emergency power outage situation so I wouldn't have to try to navigate my home in pitch black darkness. I leave them plugged in the wall in different rooms. If the power goes out, they come on and I can pull one off the wall and have a really bright flashlight to use! They need no batteries, as they stay charged up plugged in. If you don't want a night light, you can just turn it off; the bright emergency light will still come on if power goes out. These work really well; have all the features I wanted and more. What's not to like? Would be a great present for older persons especially, but for anyone really! Would most definitely buy these again!

**Q: I want to use this in a bed room but i dont want the night light. i just want the emergency light if power goes out. can i turn the night light off?**
A: Another seller answered this question, so I'm sending you their answer.  Since the item is designed to run in emergencies there would have to be a way to switch it off and keep the power saved .  Thank you for your purchase.
Here's the answer......
 Yes, simply turn the switch on the side from auto to off and the night light will not come on. Set it to off. With the switch set to off there is no light until the power goes off then the light comes on.

**Q: We recently purchased one of these and i really like it. but---what usb charging? nothing anywhere on the unit or instructions mentions usb charging!**
A: I don't have one with USB, but I believe its purpose so you still have USB power even when your power is out.  One use would be to charge your cell phone even though power is out.

**Q: Are the rechargeable batteries Lipo4?**
A: I don't know what type exactly when you say: Lipo4, in the description it says: 1 Lithium Polymer batteries required. (included)

**Q: Mine doesn't turn colors, just a gleaming white, does it do this automatically?**

I've owned these in the past. They last about 10-15 years before dimming and wearing out. Outstanding item. Every house should have several of these for safety. A full charge should last about three hours. Can be used as emergency light, night light and flashlight, although the plug doesn't fold down but swivels.
