## Description

desertcart.com: Fenix HM50R v2.0 Ultra Compact Headlamp, 700 Lumen | USB-C Rechargeable Lightweight with White/Red Light : Sports & Outdoors

Review: So close to being the one. - This headlamp is super bright, super lightweight, and the addition of a red light is awesome. I also love the 16340 battery and wish it were common among other brands. The only caveat is the narrow beam angle. I love Fenix lights. I've been a *mostly* loyal customer since the LD-20 (circa 2010). They are bomb proof and feature rich. They stand by their warranty and have replaced many straps and clips for me without complaint. I recommend them to everyone. I've been using an HL-50 for years, and bought my wife the first version of the HM50R. The new batteries produce so much more light than AA's for less weight, so it made sense to eventually upgrade. The addition of the red light was super attractive as a backpacking headlamp, and being able to share batteries with the HM50R v1 is a really nice perk. The construction is solid and the bulb strength super impressive. The only problem is the beam angle is so narrow that walking through a dark forest feels like being in a tunnel. I really, really wish they had something to compensate for that, like a snap-on diffuser. I'm going to try building one myself. I want to love this headlamp, but it gets less use than I had hoped. I ended up buying a Nitecore UT27 Pro (800) with the hope of having spotlight / floodlight / red light options, and it has become my primary headlamp. But that, too, also has its weird quirks (see my review). I'm still looking for ways to bring the HM50-R back to the throne, and I hope the v3 will consider the new issues brought about by the v2. If you aren't moving quickly through large, dark areas, then this is a great product. It's just not perfect for my needs.
Review: Fantastic headlamp for running - I'm a 4 season runner and I run early in the morning. That means for almost half my year I'm running in the dark. For this year, I wanted a headlamp that could last a full hour for my run. This does the job and then some. Lightweight, nice fit, solid construction, and rechargeable. The lowest light setting works perfectly fine - I can illuminate the sidewalk in front of me without issues allowing me to avoid some of the things that would literally trip me up in the past. The lowest setting also has several hours of battery life which is great. Then there are progressively higher settings (including a red light) which I have yet to use. It's good to know they're there but like I said, the lowest setting works just fine in the pitch black if you're just looking to illuminate the 15-20 feet in front of you.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good light for the price
*by A***D on April 12, 2026*

This has good quality. The controls are nice in that you don't have to hit the button more than once to get the desired brightness because it stays set at that. You have to hold for 0.5s to turn it on with momentary pushes changing the intensity. It is very bright on the highest settings, shining well over 100 yards. The battery life is several hours on the lowest settings. The beam is moderately wide, allowing for a good field of view so you don't feel like you're looking down a tunnel. The base is hard plastic which isn't the best, but for the money, it is certainly good. This is only worn for about 45 minutes at a time when doing night-time chores, so cant' vouch for comfort during longer wear times. Detaching from the base is a nice feature but it would be better if the lamp case was magnetic. This feature is mainly meant for attaching to a hat, which I have not tried. This has been used for over a year without issue. Remember to remove the piece of plastic from the battery terminal before the first charge.
